This was our first trip to Las Vegas we loved it. We stayed Oct 3rd thru the 7th. From the time we got there to time we left we had a blast. Checkin was a snap no real lines to speak of. (maybe we just lucky at the right time about 11:00pm) The MGM is big but after a walk around the place it was well marked. The service was good no real complaints about the people. Food was excellent. If you are planning a trip I would recomend a rental car. We did and was happy we did. The lines for the expensive cab rides were sometimes long. You can rent cars rather cheap on the internet I booked early and got a full size car for 17.99 a day. The trick to parking is valet park everywhere you go. Give the guy a couple of bucks and your in and out in no time. The Hoover Dam was a fun Day trip Lake Meade is very pretty area. Saw a few shows around Vegas all were excellent. The Rio is a fun place to go and gamble and watch the Masquarade in the sky show which runs on the hour. If you like seafood the Rio Seafood Buffett is good, crowded but I thought it was worth it. Another must see is the Fremont St. Experience. That was fun. That whole area has been redone and cleaned up and the seedy side somewhat taken out of there. Seeing the older casinos was fun. If you want a nice upscale Steak Dinner go to Binions Ranch on the 24th floor( I think) of Binions Horeshoe casino. We played at Binions and hit more Jackpots there than anywhere. Nothing bigtime but a few over $200.00. A lot of low limit tables. Which is fun because if you just want to play for a while than playing 2 or 3 dollars a hand rather then 5 or 10. Had a lot of fun visisting other casinos but was extremly happy with our choice of the MGM. If you want to relax for a Day Go to the pool complex what a great time. The drinks are a little pricey but I didn't care we were on vacation and wanted to have fun. One for sure tip is DO NOT take Vegas too seriously just have fun and enjoy yourself. If your worried about comps then you need too stay and play at one place to build it up. Some casinos have better comp rates than the MGM but who cares I was there to have fun. I wanted to leave a little money at all the casinos we visited. I would definitly go back and stay at the MGM. All the free exibits were good at all the resorts. You can make your own fun without spending too much money everyday. I suggest take your time and check out the entire city. We were not dissapointed at all. See Ya in Vegas Next Year!!!
This hotel is beautiful. It is a huge hotel but it was very easy to find your way around. The bars and resaurants are great. The room was very comfortable and very spacious. The hotel is very clean and the staff were very friendly. I stood at other hotels on the strip and so far, the MGM Grand is the winner. I loved it!
We have stayed at many of the hotels on the strip but out of all of our visits, our least favorite was the MGM. Just didn't care for the room and the walking just to get out to the strip is a trip all in itself. We always get two rooms...one for us and one for our adult son and daughter to share. When we arrived to check-in we were offered an upgrade for a price...and we took the upgrade for our room and left the kids room per the reservation. We tipped the check-in clerk $20 for his promise of "I got you a very nice room". The upgrade was a room overlooking the roof of the convention center...no mountains or beauty in sight. When I saw the small, cramped very "worn" looking room that the kids were sharing, boy, was I ever glad that we opted for the upgrade even though we paid for it and even though there was no view of anything but a roof. The kids must have been assigned to an old portion of the building. The halls were narrow and dingy and the room extremely small and old looking. We will not stay there again. But the shows there are always some of the best on the strip...particularly the many headliners that appear there. Restaurants are good and check-in personnel very friendly with very pleasant personalities...but a bit misleading on the "good room" upgrade.
The hotel, the casino and the pool were very nice. I didn't find the hotel to be too large and everything i the hotel seemed to be close by. I did have a terrace suite maybe the location of this room is just central to everything. The water temperature of the pools were very nice. There are nicer pool areas on the Strip but those pools were so cold we couldn't enjoy them like we did the MGM. My room cost $500 a night and was very nice. It was a 2 story room with a huge balcony and a JACUZZI TUB outside. I was amazed how rundown the room looked though. I've spent much less and had some superior suites elsewhere. After stating that the jacuzzi did make the room worth while. I'm like everyone else we weren't in the room alot but at 4:30 am it was nice to come up and hop in the jacuzzi before bed. The maids did a great job in our room but I did leave $20 a day for them. The maids on the other hand left the hallway a mess from people's room service. We saw the same glasses and plates by our room for 4 days. We had a great time but we always do whereever we are. I would only come back for the terrace suite the view of the strip from the jacuzzi was worth it. I still rate Mirage the best with Mandalay bay next and that's only because of their pool areas. HAVE A GREAT VACATION. I hope I was helpful. ---Mike |
