Tour: Las Vegas FantasySteve Wynn started a new era of resort building in 1989, when the Mirage opened on The Strip. The wave of themed successors quickly followed in the shape of the Excalibur, Luxor, MGM Grand and Treasure Island. It changed the look of Las Vegas, offering resorts, that not only catered for gamblers, but also created a fantasy world for all the family. A one day tour. 1 MGM GrandWith 5,000 rooms, MGM was the second largest hotel in the world when it opened (after hotel Russia in Moscow). The construction cost over a million dollars per day. The Hollywood-themed resort is spacious and easy to navigate, although in the casino area guests may feel somewhat claustrophobic. The walls are decorated with pictures of Hollywood starlets and leading men, ceiling above the main casino features a Tinsel Town mural and even the MGM trademark is honored with the MGM Grand Lion Habitat. 2 MGM Grand BuffetIf you arrive early, enjoy a buffet breakfast at the Grand Buffet, which offers a vast menu. At the weekends a champagne brunch with carved meats, shrimp and a wide variety of dishes can be washed down with a glass of Chablis. Breakfast: Mon-Fri 7-11am, Sat-Sun 7-10am
3 Desert Passage at the AladdinThe first Arabian themed Aladdin was built on this site in 1966. This new resort opened in August 2000 and is famed for its Desert Passage shopping area, built into an eight-floor mountainside with a full-sized freighter anchored alongside a replica of a North African harbor (created by the same team that built the Titanic film set) and a spectacular indoor thunderstorm. Take a break in Oyster Bay Seafood and Wine Bar, a wharf setting , which offers a wide variety of seafood including fresh oysters and lobster. 4 Star Trek ExperienceHead over to the Las Vegas Hilton and lose yourself in the 23rd century. 5 Danny Gans at the MirageFor one of the best shows on the Strip see Danny Gans, a singer, comedian, and talented impressionist who can emulate a multitude of voices from Tom Jones to George Bush. Danny Gans can even present a duet between Kermit the Frog and Jimmy Stewart. Shows daily at 8pm, except Mon and Fri 6 Kahunaville at Treasure IslandFinish off the evening at the Hawaiian-themed bar Kahunaville in TI, with acrobatic servers, waterfalls, tropical gardens and tropical cocktails. Open daily 11am-2am, with a full menu 8-10pm. |
